About Groovehound Studio
Welcome to Groovehound Studio, where passion for rhythm meets dedicated music education. At Groovehound Studio, nearly 50 students each week develop their skills, confidence, and love for the drum set through focused, personalized lessons.
The Studio is led by MIKE HIEBERT a graduate of the Los Angeles Music Academy, where he completed the Associates Degree in Music Performance with an almost perfect GPA while training with some of the most respected drummers and educators in the industry. His mentors include JOE PORCARO, legendary Los Angeles studio drummer know for his work with Toto, Madonna, and Frank Sinatra; RALPH HUMPHREY, celebrated for his performances with Frank Zappa, and Don Ellis Big Band; GARY FERGUSON, whose career includes performing with artists such as Cher, Eddie Money, Etta James, New Radicals, Steve Lukather of Toto, Sheryl Crow, The Dixie Chicks, and Emmylou Harris; MATT STARR, known for his studio work in the Los Angeles area, and studying for years face to face with the legendary Joe Morello, and drummer for Sarah McLachlan; and TONY INZALACO, whose impressive credits include The Maynard Ferguson Big Band, Oscar Peterson, and Buddy Rich.
In addition to teaching a wide range of students from 6 years old to 80, Mike has over 20 years of experience working with special needs students, creating a supportive, patient, and encouraging learning environment, where every student can succeeed at their own pace.
Through this world-class lineage of mentorship and decades of teaching experience, studying at Groovehound Studio brings professional-level knowledge and real-world musical insight directly to students. Lessons focus not only on technique and musicality, but also on building creativity, discipline, confidence, and a lifelong, appreciation for music.
